Students are in need of a wide range of support systems, and other resources and tools that are vital throughout their retention at an institution of higher education. Scholarly research has been conducted on this policy that many higher education institutions have implement into their universities. Based on the factors that the institutions have a wide range support system in place for a diverse freshman student body who are bombard with several situations that can have a profound effect o n their successful completion and whether or not they register as sophomores for the next semester. The factors that will be address are from two Universities, Chicago State University, (CSU) Chicago, IL, according to the csu website host a freshman seminar that is a course designed to assist University College (UC) students with their transition to Chicago State University and enhance the academic skills necessary for college success. This program helps freshman’s strengthen their study habits and GPA. The R.I.S.E Academy- Provides students with the personal and academic (cognitive and non-cognitive) support they may need in order to get off of academic probation and to prevent borderline students from gaining probationary status.
